The Ice Grotto is located in the western region of the Starlight Peaks, just east of the river that flows from the highest part of the mountain. The entrance is often hidden by snow-drifts and slopes downward at an almost treacherous angle. The walls are lined by ice on the inside throughout the year and include icy stalactites and stalagmites. The grotto consists of several smaller areas off the main cave, with the furthest to the back holding a freshwater pool. It deepens in summer, when the thaw partially melts the icy walls.
