Adhara was getting a lot better at this whole “waking up” thing. She was even waking up consistently, every morning, instead of sleeping in while her brothers went about their business having fun and whatever. She really wanted to have fun, too. So she made an effort to wake up earlier. And most mornings it was okay - she’d either wake up the same time as them, or a tiny bit after, or even a tiny bit before. But this morning was not okay.
Because, somehow, she had woken up before everyone. Or rather, what she thought was before everyone. And as she raised her sleepy head, she counted the bodies that she was familiar with. Mama. Dada. Adler. Aubby.
The girl blinked blearily at the empty space before it registered that he wasn’t there, nor was he anywhere else around the sleeping room. With a sniff, she laboriously rolled onto her belly and rose, toddling out of the den to peer around for him. But he was dark, and it was dark in here, and she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to find him.
“Aubby?” she whispered. And then stepped further out. Whispered his name again.
Gosh darn it. Where was that brother of hers?
With an exasperated sigh, she glanced back at into the den, and then out again. This wouldn’t take long. The cave couldn’t be that big. Could it?
She would just grab him and bring him back.
And as she crept out into the hallway, her ears perked to another voice - an unfamiliar voice, although many unfamiliar voices had begun to fill the cave, this one was particularly distinct. And the fresh smell of her brother carried after it. Adhara huffed, mildly annoyed. Did he think he could just run off and play with strangers without her?!?!? Offended, the girl set off on a march after him.
(she’s a little ways behind auberon)
