Rocco had tried to start a new life twice. However… Both failed. One moved to quickly. The other brought to much pain. Her suffering could be seen by her starving frame.

Yes… The heart break and guilt had driven her to starve herself. Rocco regretted leaving Scotch. If she ever saw him again… The woman would explain and try to fix things… If the male didnt kill her first.

Honestly… Rocco didnt fear death anymore. Yeah… She still wanted a family and pups but life seemed like it was trying to kill her… So why not speed up the process?

Rocco thought the things as she stared at the looming mountains. Nope… No more cold and distant mountains.

If Kiel wanted to follow then so be it… But he was probably happy with Callum.

Amber orbs scanned her area around her. She had come out if the bay at the south side. She could see trees in the distance. The place reminded her of the woods she met Scotch. However, she hadn’t recalled seeing a bay around.

Maybe she just never bothered to look… She never really had time anyway.

The ebony wolf wandered northward from the hills. She wasn’t yet interested in being stationary for long. Still eager to travel, see the valley. The notion of hunting crossed her mind. Something small, perhaps. Large game was typically out of the question. Especially for a wolf her size.

Unless she was in a group of course. Herding was a speciality with her lean and athletic muscle. And making fatal blows when the prey was finally down. Cynthia had only hunted like that with her natal pack, though.

Absentmindedly, she sniffed for the scent of prey. A hare or vole would be ideal. Even a morsel of mouse. With her head low, just beneath her shoulder blades, she wandered around for an easy target.

Rocco was in deep thought to notice any new scents. Her mind wandered through the past and ideas for the future.

Her heart told her brain to find Scotch and try to fix things. However… Her brain was rebelling and trying to get her to move on and forget.

The woman had given up on so many things she wanted. What would another failure be? Rocco wanted to explain to her ex about what had been going through her head. And if he killed her… Then so be it. She deserved it.

Dragging her feet through the grass… The starving lady continued on.

Wolf scent entered her nose. Fresh. A slight frown appeared. She was hoping for something more… vulnerable and an herbivore. The she-wolf continued to try to find some prey. Alas, the scent of wolf was stronger.

Cynthia lifted her head to look around. Pale gold eyes landed on another wolf not too far away. Scrawny, tiny, oblivious enough to not have even noticed her. Vulnerable. She reeked of weakness.

Tut tut, she thought. Did the wolf not know it was foolish to appear so injured out in the open?

Cynthia was bored. A little hungry, but she could waste some time. Maybe they knew a bit of the land. Surely not everyone was new to the valley. The ebony wolf lifted her head above her shoulders and let out a soft chuff to catch the stranger’s attention.

A sudden chuff caused the woman to whip her head around. A dark wolf could be seen in the distance and she for a second thought it may be Kiel.

However… as she looked closer… The markings were missing. A soft frown formed across her face.

Then she brightened up and padded over. What did this wolf want? “Pardon my oblivious self…” she apologized. Now her golden eyes awaited the reason this girl wanted her attention.

A brow lifted fleetingly at the wolf’s sudden response. She inhaled again. Female. Sillily, she thought there must really not be a single male in this valley. Unfortunate. She tended to get along with them better. Maybe because she had been surrounded by three brothers for a majority of her life.

Cynthia remained where she was while the skinny stranger walked over.

“Careful walking around like that, dear,” she advised. A pleasant smile brightened her features. “Never know who or what you might come across.” Like a predator. All wolves were predators, of course, but this one looked particularly prey-like. More a coyote than a wolf. And her pack dined on coyote every now and then. If that was what one had caught.

Cynthia’s tongue darted out to lick her nose. “Been in the valley long?” she asked.

Never know who or what you might come across.

How convenient that Cynthia should say that just as Jacqueline had caught up with her! Certainly, the ebony woman was predatory enough to warrant caution, and she slid up to the pair like a snake in the grass.

She smiled at the pair as she came to stand beside Cynthia. “My, my,” she began, surveying the newcomer, who seemed weakened, perhaps by hunger. “What do we have here?”

By the scent, she guessed that this stranger was—again, unfortunately—female. Where were all the males? Jacqueline much preferred conversing with men. So far, the women she’d encountered weren’t too much fun.

Except Cynthia, whom she was warming up to. Just a little.

Rocco perked her ears. Yeah… never know who or what you might come across. Did she really care though? It was like the question of death didn’t even phase her.

“Yeah… I’ve been her a while. Why do you ask?” She questioned. Her tone was not threatening… just curious. The female tilted her head as she looked over the larger female.

Then another scent caught her attention. Where were the wolves coming from? Her head whipped around wondering if this was a set up.

A familiar scent drifted across her nose. There was her formidable companion. Maybe the two could work together in a hunt. Catch something more substantial than a meagre hare. A small deer, perhaps. She gave her maw a lick at the sheer thought of venison.

“I’m new to the area and was I just wondering what there is to be found here,” she replied simply. The more information she had, the better. Less likely to be surprised by anything. Cynthia hated surprises.

Jacqueline’s presence seemed to startle the little coyote. So skittish. Weak. Against everything her pack had taught her, it made her skin crawl. Cynthia had met injured and ill wolves with more fire in them. Even Cleo with her wounded paw was stronger than this creature.

“What do we have here?”

Yes, what, indeed. Did Jacqueline see it, too? All the chinks in this rusted piece of armour. Cynthia had a hunch that this bitch might fail in providing her with information. Blinded by fear. Why was Cynthia having so much trouble seeing this bitch before her as a wolf? She knew exactly what a wolf was. The stranger smelt like a wolf. But somehow not. Maybe it was the sinister blood in her veins. How she was taught so devoutly about power and strength. And this one did not meet the standards. Not even a little.

Maybe this wolf really was a coyote. She interacted with wolves so much, she smelt like one and talked like one. What an interesting fantasy.

Or maybe she was just bored. A bored Cynthia was a bad Cynthia. She and Jacqueline could have so much fun.

Jacqueline had indeed noted that touch of fear in the starving one’s appearance. It almost made her feel triumphant, that she and Cynthia could look so formidable.

She’d stay silent for now as she stood beside her partner in crime, waiting to see how the conversation panned out, observing the stranger to see what fun could be had.

Jacqueline couldn’t be bored for long.

Rocco licked her lips as she watched the two females. Though on edge, the woman would be kind to them both.

“I just came from the bay… west if here. A decent place, but not really my taste. South if here is a mountain range with a pack. East of here is green hills with a sanctuary near a stream” she stated.

The quicker the information was given… The quicker she could leave.

The she-wolf spoke quickly. Cynthia couldn’t be sure if it was truth. A pack south in the mountains sounded about right. That was what the red bitch had spoken of, right? No, she had never stated in the mountains specifically. Just in the south. Hills in the east? Pale gold eyes flickered in that direction. She could have sworn it was forests. The wolf had noticed it from the desert.

Cynthia was unimpressed. Growing more irksome. For someone who had been in the valley “for a while”, she had expected more. Maybe their definitions of “a while” were different. Or perhaps that was really all the valley had to offer. Or, maybe she was right, and this wolf was a liar.

“And where might you be heading?” she asked with a faint head tilt as she dared to take a step forward. She was about to make a second, but her forepaw stopped midair. Prepared to move. “If I may be so bold.”

Of course she could. What would the weak coyote do about it? Her eyes twinkled. An angelic face hid the demon tethered within. Ready to execute. Sacrifice to Micha. A weaker wolf slain brought a stronger wolf forward. One of the many sayings her brothers had made up. Cynthia was never the most religious of her litter-mates. The second-most, maybe. But it was times like this when she felt like a proper follower of Michism.

Maybe it was Jacqueline’s presence spurring her on. Had she been on her own, she might not have had these thoughts. Or maybe she did. There was no power at all in this individual. And she showed it. In the way she sulked out in the open, allowed herself to thin from starvation. What a disgrace. Cynthia felt very confident. Very ambitious. Deadly as a Shanax warrior.

Jacqueline noticed that the stranger had given the information rather quickly, though she believed that the other was being genuine with the information. So, when she noticed her partner stepping forward, looking rather predatory, the lady was undoubtedly puzzled.

She wondered if Cynthia would attack her. Jacqueline tensed her jaw at the thought. It’d been a while since she’d sparred, and even longer since she’d been in a real fight.

She missed the feeling, wanted to bunch and stretch her muscles as her body contorted in strife. She was warming up to Cynthia, but there was no loyalty there yet; if she joined whatever was about to break out, it would only be for self-pleasure and perhaps the appearance of loyalty.

Amber eyes narrowed as the bitch watched the scene unfold. She lowered her head as she surveyed the two, predatory.

Rocco knew when something wasn’t going to go well. Therefore, she would respond quickly and get out of there. These two woman were wrong in the head.

“Trying to find an old friend, but I better be going” she said as the woman backed up and turned away. She then high tailed it out if there.

Her eyes were calculating, waiting. Muscles tense and ready. Words fell on deaf ears. The coyote was backing away. Cynthia moved forward. Just as she was turning away, she surged toward her.

“Weak,” she breathed.

The stranger was frail and starving. Cynthia had lean athletic muscle. Built for sprinting. She didn’t care if Jacqueline participated or not. Her jaws parting, reaching for one of the creature’s hind legs.

How pathetic, that the stranger would turn tail and flee before they’d even started any of the fun.

Jacqueline watched her go, then felt a jolt of surprise as Cynthia leapt forward and nipped at the other’s heels. Though there wouldn’t be much to fight, judging by that frail skeleton of hers, the bitch didn’t want to miss any of the action.

She’d follow closely after Cynthia, waiting to see if they’d catch the starving stranger, watching to see where she could sink her teeth.
