It was midmorning, and it was warm, but being near the water, with the shadow of the mountain to one side seemed to cut down the heat a bit. Blackbird had found the Creek at some point and followed it down until she’d come here, and this is where she’d been for the past day-ish. She was sure if she kept following the creek it would take her somewhere with more shade and less heat, but she was stubborn. She wanted to stay here. She wanted to make it out here in this… inhospitable desert. Prove to herself that no amount of heat would drive her away. She had water. And there there was water, there was food. She’d seen plenty of snakes, which she had avoided, but she could smell deer, though it was old and stale. She had seen some rats, which, if push came to shove, she would hunt for their meager nutrition. In a setting like this, you needed all the food you could find. This was not a place for a picky diet. There were also dandelion stalks to chew on if she just wanted the sensation of feeling like she was eating something. This place would do, for now.

Eden had been wandering aimlessly since her…disposal of the children, slowly ambling her way back to the desert for some fucked reason of running across Tiberius again. It had been the last place she’d seen him, after all, though she doubted he was still here. Why she cared, she couldn’t place. Perhaps it had been some comfort to have a comrade, someone who was willing to train her. Perhaps it was… Well, she didn’t fucking know.

She was bored, nose pressed to the ground when she spotted the dark figure in the distance. It was young, she could tell by scent, and with grand posturing, she approached.

“What brings a dark wolf to the desert?” she asked, ironically. She was dark, after all, but it seemed a hinderance for fur that absorbed the heat so in the summer. Besides, the girl was young. Perhaps she’d not recognize the irony of it. Perhaps she would, and Eden would scowl for it, not that her expression was all that far off now, glower firmly in place as usual.

Blackbird turned at the sound of approach, eyes roaming over the form of another like herself. She was asked what she was doing out here, what a “dark wolf” was doing in the desert, and smirked. “Pfft.” She made a sound that was supposed to be sort of a laugh but just came across sounding mocking. “Could ask you the same.” She held the older wolf’s gaze for a few beats, then turned her face away and looked out into the desert. “I found water here, and shade from the mountain, so I decided I’d stay awhile. What about you?”

It had been too much to ask for a daft response, it seemed, the huff of a response greeting her approach. She could very well ask the same, and so she had. The difference being that there was no way in hell the young girl had spent nearly as much time out here as Eden had, even if it’d been primarily during the winter months.

“You know there’s like a whole valley not that far that way?” she returned, tone flat, nose not quite pointing the correct way.

But she wasn’t going to digress. “Looking for someone.” Sort of. Not really. She wasn’t sure what she’d do if she ran across the light male. Some part of her instinctively said, run, yet here she was all the same.
