It was midmorning, and it was warm, but being near the water, with the shadow of the mountain to one side seemed to cut down the heat a bit. Blackbird had found the Creek at some point and followed it down until she’d come here, and this is where she’d been for the past day-ish. She was sure if she kept following the creek it would take her somewhere with more shade and less heat, but she was stubborn. She wanted to stay here. She wanted to make it out here in this… inhospitable desert. Prove to herself that no amount of heat would drive her away. She had water. And there there was water, there was food. She’d seen plenty of snakes, which she had avoided, but she could smell deer, though it was old and stale. She had seen some rats, which, if push came to shove, she would hunt for their meager nutrition. In a setting like this, you needed all the food you could find. This was not a place for a picky diet. There were also dandelion stalks to chew on if she just wanted the sensation of feeling like she was eating something. This place would do, for now.
