Keld was probably more relaxed than he’d been since. Well, maybe since they’d started this thing. They’d discussed what would happen after, that they’d remain together, and it’d lifted Keld’s spirits so much that he’d been upbeat since.

He still wanted to find Gunnar but just having an idea, a plan in place for the after - it was a good feeling. Maybe Gunnar could come back to the coast with them. Or maybe he would just stay near. Either way, Keld would know where Gunnar was. And Keld would tell Gunnar where to find him. Everything would work out. It had to, now that he had an actual plan in place.

They’d made it out of the woods and onto the plains, finally, and with it came a certain relief. Keld liked the woods enough but being back under the open sky was a lot nicer. More comforting. The woods always just felt too cramped, too small.

As it were, Keld was flopped over in the tall grass. Belly up and eyes on the sky, he watched idly as the biggest fluffiest clouds drifted overhead, content.

A lazy yawn stretched his muzzle, and he wondered breifly what Tehanu and Belarus were up to. They were around somewhere, he knew. Probably wondering where the heck he’d gone to - and here he was, wasting time watching the clouds.

He grinned.

Teha got sidetracked by a rabbit. Her stomach had been growling at her, yowling about how it wanted to be fed. Finally aware of the signs that her body threw at her, Tehanu had decided to go on a hunt. It wasn’t the plumpest rabbit in town, but it also wasn’t a scrawny little thing. Average in every sense of the word summed it up pretty well.

Everything about the hunt was average. She’d crept up on the creature quietly, then, when she felt that the moment was right, leaped out of the undergrowth and chased after the anxiety-stricken creature. And, eventually, she got around to killing it. There’d been nothing super interesting about the hunt, nothing that made it stand out among the rest.

So, with the dead thing dangling from her jaws, she picked up on the first familiar scent she found and followed it. They still had more traveling to do, but she was convinced they’d find someone one way or another.

[Arriving next round~]

Keld was totally oblvious to the approaching Tehanu. At least for now.

Attention fully focused on the clouds overhead, his tail thumped when a few took on shapes he could put names to.

There, a white fluffy fish floating by in the blue blue sky. Keld grinned goofily and watched the progress of the fishy cloud as it floated slowly across the sky - morphing and changing shape as it went. Eventually, it was unrecognizable. He wiggled further into the grass when a particularly bunny shaped cloud flitted across the sky, seemingly chasing the fish.

Engrossed in the shapes of the clouds, Keld only noticed Tehanu was approaching when his ears caught the sound of something coming through the grass. He flopped his head back because the effort of getting up to look was too much right now. And he was comfy. He saw an approaching figure and recognized it immediately as Tehanu and so he grinned, tongue hanging ridiculously from his jaws.

He noted the rabbit she carried with her and mirth danced in his eyes. His poor cloud bunny hadn’t caught it’s fish, it seemed.

Keld was flopped over on his back when Teha caught sight of him. He was staring at her upside-down and she couldn’t help but laugh at how his tongue lolled out of his mouth. It made her drop the rabbit. She stared down at it for a short moment before looking back at Keld. An idea sparked, causing her to drop onto her forelegs, rabbit between them. Rump high in the air, she glanced at Keld before looking back down at the rabbit.

A light bark lifted into the air as she repeated the glancing process one more time. Up at Keld, down at the rabbit. With one swift motion, she picked up the dead creature and dashed to the left.

Belarus had been lazing. He had gotten used to the chill of the mountains, despite his rather short time there - although, it had felt like centuries. But he was feeling the summer heat. His coat was as short and thin as it was going to get.

The brute was lying flat on the grass. Sunbathing. Not quite sleeping. That still seemed to be a rather rare occurrence. Cursed to only light sleeps, never ever quite reaching deep sleep.

A familiar bark made his ear twitch. He canted his head a little to see his companions not too far away. But he had little interest in playing. Thinking of nothing was alluring enough.

Tehanu dropped the rabbit with a laugh, and Keld couldn’t contain the bark of laughter in response. He watched as she dropped into a bow, mouth snapping shut as he focused on what she was doing.

He noticed the back and forth glances between him and the rabbit. Grinning all over again, Keld thumped his tail against the ground.

And then she picked up the rabbit and darted off, and Keld scrambled to his feet in a mass of flailing limbs, woofing as he bolted off after Tehanu.

He was probably careening right for Belarus, but he was too focused on chasing down Tehanu to realize.

Teha, too, was too oblivious to notice Belarus chilling in the grass. Her focus was on sprinting away from Keld and winning the game. Had the dead thing not been dangling from her jaws, she would have taunted something playfully. Maybe something that implied how tasty it was.

If Belarus didn’t move soon, one large package of Tehanu, Keld, plus meal would be hurled right at him.

If Belarus were a human, he’d have gotten a stick and whacked them both on their noses for not using them.

His ear twitched, hearing their galloping paws across the grasslands. The brute’s ever-present - and ever-draining - alertness got him to his paws rather quickly and scurried to avoid being trampled.

It wasn’t fair, this chase. Tehanu was all leggy and lean and built for speed, and Keld? Was not. There was no way Keld was catching her on his own unless he could power across the plains by pure determination. He focused on her fleeing backside, pushed himself as hard as he could. He would catch up and bite her right on the butt for taunting him with that damned rabbit.

Keld noticed Belarus spring up from the grass and scurry out of the way and Keld only grinned, calling out a quick. “Hey, man! Give a guy a hand!” As the pair zoomed by, probably trampling the spot he’d just been laying in. Whoops.

She zoomed, tail a straight line behind her. Maybe she could eat it as she ran… if that was even possible. That seemed cruel, though. And impossible. But mostly cruel. So she just ran, looking back once just to show them that she still had the rabbit.

Maybe she’d turn them into bowling pins, turn around, and bowl into them before dashing away again. Her smile widened at the thought. For now, though, she just kept running forward.
