Tesla certainly wasn’t going to start believing in Sokol’s airy-fairy nonsense indicating the cripple had some magic ability to evade two wolves seeking her out. It had been over a month, and Tesla knew she was here somewhere, hiding. She had followed a scent of the fake-blind wolf’s, though it may have been an older one, and now the scowling white she-wolf stood upon a small rise, surveying with disgust the scrub growing from the stagnant pools, the twisted dead trees and the places the ground was solid enough for shrubs to spring up.
Somewhere in here, her foe cowered from her.
She lifted her head and howled. “Come out, girl.” She called, the sharp sound of her voice carrying over the still land. “It is you and I, ze way it should haff been.”
