And so, she wandered

It had been an interesting first week on her own. She had had a run-in with a member of the Fire-Wing Brotherhood, who turned out to be the son of the leader, and met the leader herself when she accepted the offer to stay the night at the Falls. She had stayed the night and not taken any of their food nor drank any of their water, and was well on her way early in the morning. Now, Delaris wandered through these lands that were so strange to her, unsure of what to do. What did one do with their life after they left their pack and voluntarily went rogue? In her pack, she would have trained strong warriors, become Beta eventually, maybe even Alpha in her older years. More than likely, she would have mated and produced offspring of her own, of which she would train to become even stronger than she. Now, though, she was out in the wild alone, with no wolf nearby, and no really un-awkward way of trying to meet someone. Would she be alone forever? Who knew, really, she was simply trying to keep that off her mind.

They had moved down south again, going through hills. And wow, these hills were BIG! Sincere had no idea where they were going, other than that they were following the river. Supposedly to an ocean. If the river ended there. Sincere was really excited to see one! She turned her attention to Asaya, grinning, and hopped forward fast, a few more steps. Before slowing down again, and ending up at his side again.

So far, she had not yet noticed a wolf who was a bit further up ahead. She was not really paying attention to what was in front; more to what was around them.

(But wait, Jeames has an accompaniment :3)

He kept on Sincere’s side for a while, kind sometimes watching her and them sometimes paying attention to the scenery. The larger hills with spaced out trees really had the area feel like even his larger stature was small. The current goal to get to the ocean. Since Sincere was so happy to learn about it, he may as well teach her about landmasses and things like that. One thing he never noticed was the fact that there were things like Volcano’s where he was from, but he didn’t notice one around here and that would be interesting to talk about.

Asaya looked over when she got to his side again and he smiled at her before speaking, “So have you ever heard of a Volcano before?”

Since escaping the wasteland, Stinger had lingered in the hills. Here, prey was abundant, fresh water was readily available, and the cooling temperatures made wandering during daylight hours bearable. His heart longed for the sea, but the ocean would always be there for him. Waiting.

It did little to rush into things, he knew. What if he missed something exciting in these hills in his haste to reach the west? That just wouldn’t do.

With his snout to the ground, he was doing a bit of aimless tracking, searching for upturned prey scents or trails in the cool mud of the earth. His damaged tail waved airily above his scarred back, an indication of how preoccupied his thoughts were.

He had yet to notice the other wolves congregating a few paces away, too awash in the myriad of scents that clung to the hills to recognize that theirs were fresher, more prominent.

a round or so away!

Delaris had thought she was walking these lands alone, until a faint breeze picked up, and she was suddenly aware of the scent of not one, not two, but was that… three wolves? Delaris paused in her tracks, pointing her nose down to where the breeze carried the scents from. Peculiar. They were a bit too far to be in her range of sight right now, but she had become incredibly curious. Delaris was completely aware and knowledgeable on, well, how do you put it… Normal social interactions, between rogues and between packs. Sometimes rogues interacted with each other, other times not. Did she want to be the former, or the latter?

As if her mind was made up without her realizing it, she found her muscled legs carrying her away, towards these scents that drew her lonely attention.

OOC: I’m so excited to rp here!

As they walked, Asaya asked Sincere if she had ever seen a volcano before, to which she frowned and looked back to him. ’’I’m not sure… what’s a volcano?’’ she asked. The girl still had so much to learn about the world. She tried to imagine a volcano but she had now idea what it looked like, since Asaya had not yet told her. Sincere just wanted to know right away, though. It made her imagine things.

There was a scent of another wolf, and a second one. They hit her then, one after the other. ’’Hmm.’’ she hummed, and stopped for a moment. Sniffing, and looking around. Her blue-green eyes fell on a black blur in the distance. A wolf? Maybe. It looked like the blur was coming closer. Sincere smiled, tail wagged softly. ’’Hello thereeeee!’’ she greeted.

Hopefully it was a friendly face! But of course, Sincere believed everyone was a friendly face.

Asaya smiled at the way she was speaking happily about how she didn’t know what a volcano was. And he was going to tell her, until he got distracted by the sight sound, and even Sincere saying hello to another wolf.

He looked carefully at the wolf, making sure it wasn’t any type of non-friendly wolf. The other scent of another wolf also caught his attention and he looked around for the other one. He wasn’t one for getting attacked by two, if these two wolves knew each other. He was more on alert as Sincere was all happy and wagging her tail.

Stinger wasn’t having much luck in his tracking. He’d been contemplating heading back to the river, the one Nettle had pointed out to him, to see if it yielded any scents when the sound of a call rose above the gentle whooshing of the autumn wind.

At first, he’d thought it was the wind—merely the voice of the breeze hitting a falsetto note to break up its usual, muted tune. But the cadence of it eventually registered in his mind as that of a wolf, and it was enough to have him lifting his head from the grass.

He spotted them not long after. Two bronze-pelted creatures.

And… was that a darker blotch moving in the distance, too? He wasn’t sure.

Wouldn’t do to keep whomever had greeted him waiting, though.

“Hey there!” he barked in response to the earthen she-wolf, the one accompanied by a larger male. Pressing into a steady lope, he made his way over. In a few breaths, he’d be within prime conversing range.

[Three day skip, boop. Jump back in whenever, Mac!]

Ooooh, the other wolf spoke. Another dark one! Sincere turned around, basically jumping half a circle and facing the other wolf who was approaching them. So many wolves here, wow! ’’Asaya look, we’re not alone.’’ she said excitedly. Her tail was wagging like crazy, and she playfully whined like a kid would. ’’I wonder what their names are! I’m so curious!’’

She giggled at the last word, realizing she sort of had made an awful pun. ’’My cousin’s name is Curious.’’ Hadn’t she already told Asaya that? Tch tch, Sincere. Stay focused.
Sincere was dancing around like a little playful kid, jumping left and right, bowing in the stranger’s direction.

(Sorry for my absence!)

She started to slow as she headed down the hill. Two wolves started to come into sight. She paused, coming to a stop, as she realized these were only two of the three wolves she had smelled. She raised her nose slightly, sniffing the air to gauge where the third wolf was.  The scent led her to turn her head, where she could see a wolf seeking to head towards them.

“Hello thereeeee!” One of the wolves in the pair called out, whether it was to her or the other dark stranger she wasn’t sure. The darker stranger replied to the female’s greeting.

“Hey there!” He barked, continuing to head towards the pair. Delaris found herself conflicted. She had already decided to meet the wolves whom th scents belonged to, but now, she was second-guessing her decision. She had never met wolves so… cheery and friendly. Furrowing her brow, she decided she couldn’t turn back now, and continued heading towards them.

Unsure but slightly curious, she approached the three, not sure whether to say something or not. She decided it would be weird if a stranger approached her and didn’t say anything.

“Hey,” she says, wondering how they would react to her.

Asaya looked over at Sincere when she said they were not alone… “Noted…” He stated quietly almost kind of lowly too. Personally he didn’t like the situation they were on, but since they both seemed… approachable. He decided maybe It would be fine to work with. But he was going to let Sincere lead on this one. She’s better at conversation obviously, not him.

He also gave a little bit of a chuckle at her little, pun. But he mostly stayed silent other than that. Not that he didn’t enjoy it… but he was mostly just watching the other wolves, trying to keep watching. Now Sincere was probably going to see his more… non-friendly self.

Even at a distance, Stinger recognized the she-wolf’s posturing as inherently playful. It tickled some long-buried sentiment inside him, coaxing forth a playful flagging of his tail and boyish flopping of his paws. He tended not to carry himself with such abandon, but…

To hell with it. In the company of such friendly faces, how could he not return their enthusiasm?

The male standing beside the she-wolf seemed less receptive of his presence, but Stinger offered him a well-meaning smile regardless. Perhaps he was the quiet sort. If that were the case, the bi-eyed male found no reason to fault him. Some wolves were just wired that way.

Another party approached them then, and Stinger recognized her as the dark blotch he’d spotted upon the horizon a few minutes ago. Her greeting was friendly as the rest of theirs had been, but he did not mistake the slight apprehension in her posture.

“Heya, no need to be shy,” he offered with a wag of his tail. “Come join us.”

He turned back to the pair he’d approached originally, his smile persisting.

“You guys travelin’ too?”

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee, it was a partyyyyyy! Sincere was excited to meet new faces, and learn of their names. See how different they were from the ones she knew. This was such a good day! Sincere did not even notice Asaya was not really as outgoing as her; she was very much distracted and busy with her own things.

’’Hihi!’’ she called again as the greetings went back and forth, and she smirked. Her tail wagged. A question, directed at them. Of course Sincere was quick to respond. ’’Yeah! We were planning to go to the ocean! I’ve never seen one before!’’

Exciting exciting.

’’Where are you going?’’ she asked both newcomers, looking between them with a bright smile.

She paused as the darker wolf addressed her directly.

“Heya, no need to be shy. Come join us.” His gentle words strike an unfamiliar part of her brain, as such words were never really spoken back in her old pack. He looks back to the pair of wolves, a cheery seeming female and a so-far normal-seeming male, and asks if they’re traveling as well. Furrowing her brow and tucking her chin a bit, she takes the last couple of tentative steps towards the three.

“Hihi!” The hyper female said, seeming all-too excited for meeting two strangers. “Yeah! We were planning to go to the ocean! I’ve never seen one before! Where are you going?!” Her energy never seemed to end, never fluctuate. Delaris had never met or seen a wolf act so, well, bubbly and happy, and never had she met wolves so eager for conversation or to be with other wolves, let alone strangers. It was a strange thing indeed.

Assuming the question the female had asked was directed to her as much as it was the other new wolf, she opened her maw to speak, this kind of conversation unfamiliar to her.

“I suppose I don’t have any real destination in mind,” she says, glancing at the other dark newcomer. She had, completely biased-ly, expected him to be as serious as her, but it seemed he was as friendly and almost as excited as the she wolf. The other male, on the other hand (paw?), stayed mostly silent, more-so reminding her of the wolves from back home.

Asaya was watching as she was being all happy and bubbly. It made him smile a little bit, but he still kept a trained eye on the two other wolves that came into the picture, he did slowly begin to lighten his mood, but he was still hard if they were speaking directly to him. The first female spoke directly about not having a destination in mind, which was fine. Didn’t hurt anything, but that also confirmed to him that the two were probably not together as they didn’t really say they were together.

So he lowered his guard so much, so he didn’t seem so harsh on his attitude or anything, but he was still quiet.

THE OCEAN.

Stinger’s entire bearing brightened. His bi-colored eyes opened wide, as did his muzzle, revealing the extent of his surprise at hearing the she-wolf mention the ocean as her destination.

Some sort of power was at work here, clearly. Was it what others would call fate? He didn’t know. But… something had drawn them all together.

He looked eagerly to the dark she-wolf he’d called over, nearly convinced she’d answer the same. To his sorrow, her reply was almost as noncommittal as they came: she had no destination in mind at all.

Stinger could only shake his head in disappointment. Not at her, but for her. Perhaps she deserved an invitation to go along to the coast, too.

He looked to the other pair of wolves, still mid-twisting of his skull.

“Get this,” he began, eagerly tapping a forepaw upon the ground for emphasis. “That’s exactly where I’m headed, too! I come from the sea uh, way back thattaway.” Here, he tossed his nose to the east. “And I’ve wanted to see the ocean on this side of the land.”

His parted lips revealed a gleaming smile.

“You guys lookin’ for some company?” He glanced between all, including the dark she-wolf, wondering if his and the other girl’s enthusiasm for the beach might coax her into considering coming along, too.
