Prince Pharaoh Proleator hadn’t really set off with an intention to explore further afield, but he was surprised to find a scheduled bay tucked away beyond the treeline of the Evergreen forest. He eyed it uncertainly - it seemed a dull and unwelcoming place to Pharaoh, who was used to prey-rich, lush lands. Well, it was interesting, since he had not known the coast extended this far inland. For a while he watched birds soaring over the calm waters, then with a sigh he rose from the undergrowth and padded down to the beach to sniff half-heartedly at the water. Confirming it was indeed, salty.

Whatever he was seeking wasn’t on this lonely stretch of shoreline.

[Scott is here to save the lonely threads.]

He wasn’t sure why he was back here, exactly, only that it had felt wrong to leave this place. This valley. It pulled at him. Something had pulled him back. Maybe it was the fact that this was the land where he and his father had grown a strong bond, and there was nothing else to go back to. It had just felt… wrong. His father’s family didn’t feel like family to him, but it had been his father’s. But here, here was where he had been born, and grown up, for the most part of his life.

And Scott was willing to try again, to give this land another chance. While it was a place full of sadness, it also had good memories. And maybe… a future. Traveling made him feel so alone. Scott wanted to be part of something bigger.

Maaike and the others had helped him. He was doing a little bit better. But leaving this place… it just did not feel right. So, he had apologized to her, and headed back.
Still young, he already got plans. Scott wanted to either join a pack, or start one, himself.

One way or another, he would be a part of something bigger again. One way or another, he would be whole again.

This area was new to him, he had not yet been here. He had come down from the northern mountains, where he had last been seen, and moved west, then south. He realized… he had not yet seen the coast. Wrenegade and him had never gone there.
Scott felt… guilty.
But, he had a feeling he was nearing a coast.

This area was not very interesting, though. It looked rather dead? Strange enough, Scott found an interesting comfort in that.

((Hi Scottish Scott!))

Pharaoh continued to stare out over the ocean until he spotted a wolf approaching. A dark-furred wolf, one he did not know, who did not appear to have noticed him. Which was odd, considering Pharaoh was standing on a bare shore with no cover whatsoever. He glanced the other wolf’s way for a moment, then offered a single nod, figuring he must be wanting solitude, not company. That would make sense for a place like this. Nobody would come here to enjoy themselves, surely. This desolate bay was nothing like the lively, bustling coast he now lived upon.

Scott did not notice the male right away, but he did see him after a split second, and noticed the other wolf looking at him. Not sure what to do since he had bad experience with strangers, he decided to move in a little bit closer, but keep his distance. He eyed the other wolf carefully; his coat brown, hints of ginger, darker brown. Interesting color.

The words left his mouth before his brain even processed them. ’’Friend or foe?’’ he asked with his thick accent, and eyed the stranger carefully. How was he ever going to be a guard again of a pack if he acted like such a little bitch…? Scott really needed to get back into it.

Pharaoh hadn’t taken much offense to anything for a while, but his face rapidly grew thunderous at being posed such a riduclous question by a wolf he could now see was considerable younger than he was. What WAS it with all of the youth in this valley? Pharaoh swore by his title if he and Babette had children they would be taught the proper manner of address!

“By the Kingdom boy, your manners are atrocious! How could I possible begin to answer that question when I have never met you?!” He demanded huffily, nose held slightly in the air.

Larisa moved along the beach slowly. She had spotted the big timber wolf a moment before, but had waited to call out to him just yet. She wanted to see what he was doing here. However, a smaller, darker wolf approached as well.

The pale woman was not familiar with either, and for a moment she had stopped, considering turning around or returning to the island. She wasn’t overly interested in dealing with two unruly males if they knew each other.

From the bigger wolf’s body language - though she couldn’t hear the words - she was inclined to think they were strangers to each other as well.

Instead she pressed forward towards them at a casual walk. Her nose and tail were held confidently, waiting to see if either of them would notice her coming closer.

[Arriving next round]

Scott’s ears pressed back at the sudden response, and he staggered back a few steps. He watched carefully, uncertain. ’’Ah have bin attacked by strangers sae…’’ he commented, scared. This guy clearly acted rather… not aggressive but- Scott didn’t really know. He did not trust this wolf. He took another few steps back.

’’Ah dinnae wantae offend anybody… I’m sorry…’’ he whispered. More steps back. Body cowering. If he could… turn around and leave, that would be great.

But not, another wolf was coming. Scott’s body lowered a little. Did they know each other? If they did, and the lady acted the same way, Scott would bolt. It was not Scott’s fault he wanted to feel safe.

The boy’s cringing away from him as if he were some common criminal did little to appease Pharaoh, though at least he offered an apology, weak as it was.

“I am hardly surprised I am not the only wolf to take offense, if you approach strangers in such a fashion.” He snorted haughty, reverting back to full-blown Prince mode. He soon spotted a flash of white fur approaching, easy enough on this bleak stretch of coast. “Pay attention boy, to see how one ought exchange proper greetings.” He lectured.

Knowing his luck, the approaching wolf he could now see was a female would have little idea of propriety either. Pharaoh rose to his full height then swept into a courteous bow to the she-wolf, swaying his tail behind him and straightening up to speak up in his most well-spoken tones.

“Good day to you Madam, would you care to join me?”

The little male cowered from the bigger one, Larisa slowed her steps a little, but continued forward. Aside from the small wolf looking afraid, there really seemed to be no danger.

Suddenly Larisa was being addressed and it was the first part of the conversation that she had really heard. Whatever strange thing that had caused the bigger male to turn to her and say such a thing, it amused Larisa in a certain way. “Good afternoon, good sir,” she replied, dipping her head neatly and bringing it back up with a serious expression. In her own mind it was a great and amusing game, she had no idea that the big male was actually being serious when he spoke to her in such a way.

It was like the other male with his ‘angel’ comment, except hopefully less creepy in the end. She approached the pair smoothly, giving a haughty little nod to the darker male as well, amusing herself by pretending these perfect strangers were worth any amount of her time. But she’d play along, things got boring around these parts some days.

’’Ah… Ah started askin’ only efter Ah wis attacked… It helped.’’ Scott told the male. And it looked like it had worked. Scott now knew to stay clear of this wolf. Because he had asked someone else before and they simply smiled at him and told him friend. If this wolf took offense, he was a danger.

Th male went on to address the other wolf, greet her. Scott just watched, silent. He had wanted to say something, but waited until the male was done. Had the bowing been necessary, though? This guy was actually kind of weird…

’’C-can we stairt over, please? Ah’m Scott Peregrine Blaine… Ah never meant tae offend anybody. Ah’m juist… careful aroond strangers.’’ he told them both, but mostly the male. His father had taught him proper manners. It was just that they never seemed to work, anymore. Whether you were polite or not, everyone seemed out to kill you.

Scott never came closer. He just kept his distance.

Maybe he should just go.

’’Ah wull juist… go. Ah… will no be a bother anymore, Ah’m sorry…’’

And with that, ears pressed back, he turned and started skittishly walking off.
All he had wanted was to ask question about the valley, about packs. Looked like that was not going to happen.

[attempted exit for scared boy.]

Pharaoh snorted impatiently after the retreating boy, paying listen attention to his excuses. Teenagers! He was much more inclined to be polite to the woman who had returned his greeting, and he turned to her, dipping his head and offering a small grin. “It’s actually Prince, my lady, not sir, but no matter.” He allowed magnanimously, moving on to the familiar my lady he used when bestowing gracious respect upon a female. He hadn’t wanted to shout his name and title across a distance when he was demonstrating manners to the now departing Scott. Who wouldn’t even sit put for a lesson, naturally. The impatience of youth.

“Allow me to introduce myself. Prince Pharaoh Proleator, heir to the Proleator Kingdom, currently of the Adunati Rangers pack.”

The boy started to speak and Larisa was practically appalled. What was wrong with him? He didn’t seem to say a single word properly, it all came out garbled and abbreviated together. She blinked at him a few times, not even sure where to start on trying to not let her utter disgust show threw. He seemed to recognize that he didn’t belong here and at least she started to scurry away.

Now it was just the weird, bigger male. As he continued to speak she felt like had somehow found a wolf even weirder wolf than the last. However, this was proving a good game to play. She had to scrambled to come up with a even more preposterous title for herself, but in the end she thought she managed it. “Lady Larisa Negrescu, of the Blanc Point Negrescu’s. Currently Lady of the Island, at your service.” With that she dipped into a bow to match his previously, bringing herself up to stand regally before him. Larisa was no stranger to pride, but she had never felt so full of herself before in her life. She loved it.

“But please, tell me of your pack, I’m not familiar.” She turned to him with a casual expression to await his response, as if it did not matter what he said. In truth, she still sought more information about this valley and what was nearby. Without traveling she had to rely upon others to tell her. For how long Kaya had been gone, she hoped the woman came back with other interesting news of this place.

Ah, such a well spoken and clearly well bred lady picked up Pharaoh’s mood considerably, soothing his ruffled ego from the insults he had collected from Scott. He gave her his full attention, much bolstered when she bowed back to him, affording him the same measure of respect.
“What a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Negrescu.” He pronounced the more complex syllables of her name flawlessly. Getting names incorrect or stumbling over them was often a cause for wounded pride among royals, who all had long, complex titles for the most part.

He settled into a proper sit, forepaws level with one another, tail tucked nearly alongside his left haunch. “I would be delighted to. I have been a founding member of the Adunati Rangers, a coastal pack led by a wolf named Bucky, since the pack began last autumn. Initially, before departing the valley, my sister Caesar Proleator led the pack at his side, and so my alliangence was always clear. At present, myself and my mate the Lady Babette are staying here in the forest with the Evergreen Wolves, who unfortunately lost all but two of their adults and did not have enough hunters to provide for the litters both theirs and two litters who were abandoned by their mothers.” He tsked heavily, showing what he thought of mothers that did such a thing.

Warming to his story he didn’t stop to think it might not be wise to give away such information so freely to a wolf he’d just met and knew nothing of.

((I’m on ego overload somebody please drop a ballistic missile on these two to cut them down to size :P))

Larisa dipped her head in reply. “A pleasure,” she replied. The woman settled gently back onto her haunches, taking a moment to neatly wrap her tail around her back legs and place her front feet daintily across each other. Her muzzle came back up and was pointed ever-so-slightly into the air. She ought to show Crixus this new, false face of hers sometime soon. She thought he might get quite a kick out of how ‘proper’ she was.

The pale woman wasn’t even quite sure if Pharaoh too was playing a game, or if this was just how he acted every moment of his life. Lord, what poor woman had he conned into being his mate. Larisa would surely have chewed Crixus’ face off if he had acted like this for too long. She ought to remember not to annoy her mate too much if she played this game with him.

Her blue eyes watch him placidly. A few names, maybe useful, maybe not. More news about the Evergreens. News that made her want to avoid the place even more. Whatever had made all of their adults flee from the place wasn’t something Larisa cared about nor wanted to involve herself in. Let them become a mess of ill-bred puppies. Clearly ill-bred if their parents didn’t even have the instincts to make sure their own flesh and blood was cared for and survived.

The woman wrinkled her nose, figuring Pharaoh would think it was because of the poor pack and their missing adults. “What a tragedy,” she said dramatically, thinking that she only could have made it sound more over-the-top if she had swooned backwards in the next breath. “The Rangers must be very large to be able to send you here?” She asked innocently. This information might be worth knowing. If all of the others packs in this valley had strong enough ties to share members between them, then the Blanc’s were going to have to be careful.

Pharaoh was as oblivious as a summer butterfly.

“Indeed so.” He agreed, a serious frown marring his features. “Oh yes, we’re a fairly large pack.” He had no idea of the recent departures, and once again gave no thought to the information Larisa was slyly aiming to get out of him. “Around twenty strong, including this.” He coughed, trying to cover for the sudden flash of melancholy that overrode him. “This year’s young.” He finished, sounding a good deal less collecting, but scrambling to regain.

“But I ramble on; what of yourself, Lady Larisa?” He nodded to the island before them in the bay. “Is that the island you spoke of? Is it not a lonely place to call home?”

Larisa nodded demurely at the information about his pack. She was impressed, or perhaps worried. A pack of twenty wolves was not something to ignore. Some were pups, but still, they wouldn’t be pups for long and clearly with that many adults the pack would only grow further. At least they were on the coast, some small distance from the Blanc’s and their island.

He asked about her, but Larisa didn’t intend to give away too much about their plans for that island. Perhaps she had already gotten carried away in mentioning the island in the first place. The thrill had gone to her head.

“Yes, that is the island indeed. I like a quiet home, undisturbed by trouble or worry.” That much at least was true. She wanted to be left alone on her island to help build a pack and rebuild her family. “There aren’t wolves or packs in this valley that would cause us problems here, are there?” She affected a worried expression. This male seemed to know much more about the valley than almost any she had met before. She’d get him to talk as much as she could.
