Despite the downpour, it had not taken long to travel from the beach to the cache near the little spring on the island. He settled himself, business-like in his ministrations. There was little to be done about the rain as it poured down, thunder booming overhead, but it made for a dramatic picture, at least.
The big male tilted his muzzle to the sky and loosed a long, deep howl of summoning for the remainder of his family. He had bad news for them, but it seemed kinder to call them to this spot than to bring them right into the heart of it without an explanation first. When his call ended, his gaze flicked idly to Kaya, in case she had any last words to add before they faced his cousins together.
