Ozias limped steadily around the lake. That morning he had awoken early, restless without Felicity to curl up beside for warm and reassurance, and managed to catch a slow pheasant which he had left for Gareth further south. He was determined to show everybody, from her to his mother, he wouldn’t be held back by his bad leg, which still ached and pained him on a regularly basis although the scabs had faded into healthy looking skin again. He has struck out further around the lake than he’d been before, sniffing hopefully after rabbit trails that wound through the trees. He had lost weight, given that he wasn’t very fast anymore and he’d been giving half of his catches to Gareth.
Ozi sighed when rabbit darted away from his lurching gait, well out of reach. He didn’t bother wasting energy chasing it. He was growing despondent again, even though seeing Effie had picked his spirits up. There had been no sign of Cian since Ozi had caught his scent in the meadow. Plus Felicity wasn’t back yet, and Gareth wasn’t exactly a fantastic conversationalist.
Maybe he ought to head for his mother’s pack - but he wanted to wait a few more days for Felicity before going anywhere without her.
