Lestat has managed to get Sienna to finally travel towards the Hillside Sanctuary, a faint grin pressed to his lips as he walked with her along the shore of the lake. Through the Acres, past the forest that bordered them to he wear, and once more they were in the open.

They were closing in on the hills, it was clear as the scenery changed - time to time, Lestat would glance back to the lake, angled towards their newly founded home. The place he would raise his first litter.

Flicking his tail once at the thought, his pale blue eyes roamed to Sienna, her well known coat of chocolates and oaks made him think of Daniel. He wondered how the healer was fairing in the southern mountains, wishing he had been closer. Daniel could help better than any other healer, he knew it in his heart. The boy had always been gifted.

A dominantly black coat began to get peppered with a soft white as snow began to gingerly fall upon the area. It was much needed, the winter hadn’t been feeling quite winter-y enough.

”Not much farther, dear,” his monotonous voice carrying a hint of encouragement. ”How are you fairing?” she was early on in her pregnancy, but this was a weight Sienna was not yet used to - perhaps she needed a rest.

It had been weeks since she traveled a distance far enough to actually account for anything. This time they had taken a new route around the lake, freshly fallen snow crunching beneath her paws. Looking back, a trail of paw prints were seen with drastic size differences.

Soon enough, there would be even more trailing behind them. The quiet as they traveled left her with her thoughts, it felt almost surreal that she was returning to the Sanctuary, no matter how short of a time. Would they hate her for not leaving just once, but twice?

The girl did feel heavier than normal, it was an odd feeling, but once she harbored gleefully and happily. She was experiencing this for the very first time and it was going as smooth as it could, for the time being. Her ears perked as her mate called back to her and she noticed she had been falling behind slightly. Picking up her pace, she joined his side. ”Got lost in thought.” she admitted honestly, her tail waving behind her.

”You know where to go from here?”

It was beginning to snow again. As much as he didn’t want to, Daniel knew he would have to peel his eyes off the lake eventually and return to where the group had agreed to meet. Hopefully nothing had happened between Damien and Marceline in the short time he and Astred had been away, although the thought of it did cause his pace to momentarily quicken.

Daniel liked the older woman. She was becoming a sort of mother figure to him, filling the hole in his heart that parting with his real mother had left. The male could only hope that Damien would eventually give in to the feeling, too. It was there. He knew it.

Seconds before entering the glade with the treeline at his paws, Daniel paused. There was something familiar hanging in the air. He found himself unable to recognize it though, feeling as if he knew it and at the same time, it lacked something…major. As if the scent or scents were ones he could once link a face and name to, but had since changed into something entirely new.

It made him feel uneasy.

Unsure, the chocolate male turned to face the open terrain behind him, eyes scanning carefully over the gentle slopes.

Pausing, and looking over his shoulder, he watched Sienna as her strides carried her to his side confidently. Had he known where to go from here on out? ”Indeed, I’ve never met a sanctuary wolf, but I spent much of my days in the hills beside them.” he had had no initial reason to meet them before. But now, he was a neighbor.

Facing forward again, Lestat began his casual gait once more. Tail swinging lazily with his hips as he walked southward, eyes still glancing to the lake time to time.

The blackened male opened his maw once more, ready to speak, and eyes slowly rolling towards Sienna - but a figure made him stop. Made him freeze.

Too far to take note of size or features, all he saw was a darkened silhouette upon the horizon in the distance. Wind, was not in his favor.

A sudden urge of defensive nature bubbled in him, not only did he have Sienna to look after - but his children as well. ”Stay close to me, Sienna,” his voice was a soft instruction. Hopefully, if they just kept walking, the other would simply notice two was not an easy battle.

Ah. She nodded lightly, brushing against him encouragingly and affectionately. Snow dusted against their backs, a sign that a late start to winter was finally upon them.

Perhaps, in the coming days there would finally be a layer of fresh snow; for now, however, only frost froze upon the ground. Sienna felt him stiffen before she realized anything was going on, in fact her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as he slowed down as well.

Trailing her eyes to see where he was standing, she noted a dark figure. Uneasy, her fur began to stand up. Usually she wouldn’t mind company but now that she was almost positive that she was pregnant, she couldn’t help but becoming far more protective over her body.

She gave a quick ‘mhm’ in response, walking beside him.

At first Daniel almost decided that it was his brain messing with him again. Stress did that sometimes, now especially, having left the pack he thought he would be a part of for the rest of his life. Except it wasn’t that. Out of the corner of his vision, he spotted two figures.

They were still too far for him to make out their features, only that it was two wolves with a rather drastic size difference - both dark. But their scents. He knew them somehow. With his ears flat against his skull and tail curled between his legs, he finally approached. It was only a few steps in their direction, but hopefully it would be a clear yet respectful indicator that he wanted to at least gain their attention. “Hello?”  He called out softly.

Protectively, his tail cussed agaisnt Sienna as she trailed beside him. Their chosen path not altering, even with the unexpected company they had received. His mate had hummed a soft agreement to staying at his side, which eased him a tad.

Lestat walked, sure not to travel too quickly so Sienna wouldn’t lag back too much. Blue eyes still trained on the figure, but their stance faltered as they grew closer. Almost cowering, reeling back, and aborting any threatening stature. A good sign, for now.

As a small gust rolled past him and carried their scents towards the stranger, he heard the softness of the breeze roll the ripples in the lake - as well as a voice.

A simple Hello.

But a “Hello” that he knew. Timid, far away, but still so fresh and clear in his mind that I’d made his body almost feel numb.

Again, he stopped. Staring. He could see it now. He could see the brown of his coat instead of the fuzzy unclarity of it maybe being black or brown. No. It was brown. Like Sienna. It was familiar, it was known to him.

Standing stock still, his head lowered a few notches casually - watching. ”Daniel?” it was a whisper, enough for Sienna to hear, but surely not the far off male.

His mind played tricks, surely. He had been thinking of the healer a lot. He was in the mountains, with Damien. Not here, not by his new home. It was a facade.

She brushed against Lestat in an attempt to ease his mind, whoever it was didn’t seem to be all that interested in being hostile, in fact, they seemed to cower away slightly while walking closer. Her ears perked at the hello - it was familiar to her, one she hadn’t heard for a long time. Lestat uttered the one name that confirmed her suspicions. Daniel.

A grin formed on her face, her tail wagging behind her gingerly. ”Daniel.” She repeated softly to her mate. And then she called out to him in the distance. ”Daniel!” She took a step forward and then another one before pausing.

But what was he doing out here, so far from the covenant?

The two wolves stopped in their tracks as soon as Daniel’s greeting left his lips. Clearly they didn’t want to talk and it was understandable - maybe they resided in the nearby area and had a job to do. The last thing Daniel wanted was to disturb the everyday tasks of the wolves around him.

If it wasn’t for a small gust of wind, he would have turned away, prepared to leave. But all it took was a slight whiff for his muscles to tense up and heart to start hammering.

It happened quickly. His mind finally registered the scents. The realization that they were supposed to be here. North. Their coats.

When the smaller of the two spoke, there was no denying it anymore.

“Sienna!” He exclaimed, abruptly flooded with joy. Without a moment’s hesitation, Daniel pranced toward them, tail whipping at the air. “Les!” It had been so long. So long. And despite it, despite everything that happened, he was standing right there. In front of him!

As he approached, it took everything within him not to launch himself at the dark male. He managed though, instead skidding across the frosty earth and bringing his paws to an excited, puppyish stop. You’re here!

Lestat felt his ears sink and face turn to look at Sienna as she yelled the healers name. Frantically, blue eyes darted to the figure. He held his breath - unable to move, not blinking. Just… waiting for confirmation from the far off figure.

And boy he sure got it.

Another few notes of his voice, calling for Sienna in return to her yell. Bouncing towards them the same was a deer prances in a field, the brown male looked nearly fox like as his joy seeped into Lestat.

It was Daniel. He was here right HERE. Next to his home.

There was a pounding in his chest as he watched the boy race to them. ”Daniel,” another whisper to himself. ”Daniel,” under his breath, is he sure it was real?

”Daniel! loud enough to finally be heard - the healer was skidding to a halt before them and Lestat let his tail wag more than he often did.

He knew Daniel was alive, but he hadn’t seen him in… so long. Too long.

”I thought…” he finally took a real breath, ”I thought you were in the southern mountains, with Damien? With the covenant?” confusion. Joy. Unsureness. Was Damien okay? Was he alone? What happened?

Truth be told, she hadn’t heard Lestat raise his voice, like, ever. Well, there was that one time with the storm and he and her and yeah. Her tail wagged up a storm behind her as Daniel bounced towards them and the girl momentarily abandoned her side by Lestat, running towards her friend as well. Eventually she skidded to a halt, an excited whine fleeing from her lips.

”Daniel,” She breathed in relief. ”What-“ Her soon-to-be question was overrode by Lestat’s. Immediately she fell into silence, enjoying the reunion of them.

The reunion was no different than Daniel had imagined. Though joyous, there were questions, some of them ones that upon answering would bring forth two more. But for now, he was too excited and happy to worry about explaining everything in detail. There would be time for that.

“We left…because of some things. He said. “So we decided to find you! Relic told us you were heading north.” Although just by that, Daniel never would have guessed that he would find them at the lake.

“And, um, there’s one more thing.” Something that Damien hadn’t reacted too well too. Lestat, though, was calmer. Colder, but in a good way. Hopefully his reaction wouldn’t be as negative as his brother’s had been. “Your mother…She’s with us.”

They left the covenant for reasons. Because of some things. And they decides to look for him.

They.

They.

”Damien too?” an involuntary question, his tone inquisitive as he spoke softly to Daniel in near disbelief.

But buckle up Les, because Daniel spoke again and he didn’t quite understand how to grasp the concept. His mother? But Willow… Willow was dead, Daniel knew that. The Aderlys’ surrogate mother had died of old age long ago. It was still a slight sore spot for him, he cherished and loved the woman greatly.

”I’m sorry, Daniel, I…” he paused, glancing to Sienna quickly and glancing back to Daniel, his blue eyes as cold as they often were, hazy with vague confusion. ”I don’t understand,” the monotonous voice of the Aderly spoke unfaltered - what had the healer meant?

We? Her eyebrows furrowed. Who was ‘we’? Surely it consisted of Daniel, but who else? Immediately she feared that Stephan had gone with them and immediately she fluffed up in protectiveness. Only… to realize that his scent did not cling to Daniel’s fur. Eventually, she relaxed again, but Lestat inquired if his brother had gone with them as well. So was the Sanctuary a spoof then? Change of plans?

She did trust Daniel more than most wolves, especially when performing medical practices - she wouldn’t have been more lucky for him to confirm or deny her pregnancy. She trusted Daniel.

And then he spoke of Lestat’s mother with them and immediately her eyebrows rose. Willow, right? Wasn’t she dead? Lestat seemed to have the same thoughts until realization struck her cold and hard. ”Biological?” She inquired towards Daniel softly, stepping a bit closer to Lestat in order to say ‘I’m here, you’re okay.’

“Damien too. And his mate, Astred.”

Lestat’s confusion caused a flood of guilt to wash through Daniel’s body despite his excitement and relief to have finally found them. But there was no other way to deliver everything in a way that wouldn’t be confusing or risky. Introducing Marceline to Damien without a single word of warning uttered had been a nightmare. He wasn’t ready to make the same mistake, even if everything between the two had calmed since then.

Sienna was the first to understand. Swallowing hard, Daniel nodded. “Les,” He addressed softly. “Your birth mother has been looking for you and your siblings. Damien has met her already - she’s with us.” With a glance at his paws, he continued. “Her name is Marceline.”

Lestat felt his body tense as Sienna spoke a word that seemed entirely unrealistic. Biological. His birth mother. The one that actually gave birth to Lestat, Damien, and Valley.

Daniel nodded. Soon attaching that his mother was with them. As well as Damien’s mate (weird). But his biological mother, whose name was Marceline.

Did she know the Haven fell apart? Did she go back to look for them after all that time, finally?

Lestat gave all chances, but often only one. Perhaps he was too young to consider his start of life a chance. After all, if she was traveling along with Daniel and Damien, thebmales must enjoy her. Or often in Dama’s case, tolerate her.

”Wait…” Astred. Astred. A name he knew. A name someone was looking for. ”There was a man, looking for Astred not long ago, in my home,” it was easier for him to process Marceline on the back burner, for now.

”We live in the Acres, just around the lake some, of you want to bring the ground for some food and a rest. We can sort everything out there,” yes, everything. Astred. Marceline. The preganancy. The brothers meeting. So much.
