Teamwork. Too bad Altair never got that message.
Rota trailed behind a bit as Natasha investigated, casting her own gaze around at the surrounding hills. With how flat everything was around here in comparison to the glen, she wouldn’t have been surprised if she was able to see the herd before she smelled them.
She actually did see something, however, something that was most definitely not a herd of deer. Rota squinted. The horizon shimmered as the dying sunlight cast its last rays of the day on the icy river, illuminating the strange silhouette moving along its shore.
”Uh,” she piped up, still squinting. ”I think I found them?”
The silhouette was tall like a deer, but it was also very, very wide. Like grotesquely so. It was practically just a giant oval balanced precariously on four stilts. It also didn’t have antlers, was alone, and — now that she thought about it — probably wasn’t a deer. Unless deer suddenly started growing really long feathery tails and Rota was just seriously out of the loop.
