Trouble itself leaked from every orifice of the pup. Her sister had been subdued lately, sniffling and sleepy, but not so was the runt of the twinship. She had taken to scampering from the den at every possibility, lately, and today was no different. A little cackle of delight would announce her presence to any passersby, no doubt, as she scuttled to her favorite clump of bushes.
“Koenose, Ickwiss, Eeko, Eppydem, Piiiiiyo.” This was a song of sorts, sung in a high-pitched little voice as she tilted her head to and fro, swishing her tiny tail (and with it, her hips) and parading through the green. Now and then she would leap the biggest puppy leap she could manage and snatch a leaf of emerald from the twigs above her, only to drop it to the ground. She had found that in time, these turned from deep green to a more muted shade, becoming crispy and crunchy, and it was always interesting to watch the process. “Piyo, Eppydem, Eeko, Ickwiss, Kooooeeenose,” she sung her little tribute back the other way, utterly content as she strolled purposefully along.
