The king was not incredibly forthcoming about the queen situation, and although he answered Senna’s question she was more confused now than she had been before she had asked. In the stories, weren’t the King and the Queen always mates? And what was a lover, anyway?!? It.. it was a mate.. right? Even with food in her stomach, Senna’s thoughts still felt foggy. From the way the King was speaking so slowly, the girl gathered that this line of inquiry had just about run its course. So Senna contented herself with the explanation that Kings and Queens must be different in real life than they were in the stories. (If only she knew xD)
And then he offered her a home, just like that, and all the questions flew out of Senna’s mind, replaced for just a passing moment by stunned blankness. Could she really just join.. just like that? She knew nothing about this Kingdom, except that it was run by a kind, open-hearted king and maybe even Eden, who Senna also held in high regard. Now that there was food in her stomach, Senna was following her thought trains further, and she realized what it was that was holding her back from immediately accepting King Elliot Daniels’s offer.
It was Eden. She had made it sound like this valley was some kind of hell-hole, war torn and soaked in blood and death. If this Kingdom was so wonderful and safe, why had she left? Why did Elliot have to bring her back as he put it? It didn’t make sense. Why would she run from the place where her lover ruled.. where she might even be queen?
Maybe the man sensed her hesitation, because he began describing all that she could become in the Kingdom. He spoke of her being taught to fight, which was probably the most seductive offer he could have made to a kid her age. Senna stepped forward, entranced with the idea. Her, a squire to a great knight, earning glory side-by-side on the battlefield, fighting to protect the Kingdom and its common people. In her mind, the knight was Elliot himself.
“Would I be your squire? Or.. or Eden’s?”
Of all the questions she had about Eden, the queen, this kingdom, and His Highness King Elliot Daniels himself, this was of course the most pressing.
