His world was vaugely tinged grey. Blood drooled from his coat, splattering against the sand. But his bloodshot blue eyes only stared at the sea. It’s rolling surface, the one Yuna loved with all of her heart. The part of him that was still rational after the rest had cracked and splintered into madness laughed.

Tidus stumbled. And he almost didn’t get back up. But he managed it, stumbling towards the sea like a walking corpse. Well..thats mostly what he was. Being gored by a bull caribou he was foolish enough to try and take down by himself wasn’t great. He wasn’t sure how he managed to get here, multiple spans of his memory being washed away like sand on the beach.

And his legs stopped working, just as he was getting to the sea. He wanted to sob, to cry out loudly for just comfort from someone. Tidus had never been a brave wolf and this was no different. He would die as he lived.

A coward til the end, it seemed.

He didn’t want to die. Death scared him. He had family. He had friends. He had just wanted to look like a good mate and father. Like Yuna told him.

Water splashed over his muzzle, making him blink almost sleepily, before a small smile crossed his face. The ocean accepted him. It welcomed him home. A sense of peace settled over him.

Something reassured him. He had been good.

I’m sorry. ” He whispered to the wind. He wouldn’t die surrounded by family. But, as he lay here, the tide lapping at him as if to pull him into the sea.

His eyes closed, and his last sensation was the sea splattering against his muzzle and the wind tugging his fur.

Home.

Exit good boy you had a good life ;-;

Regent was glad to be back to the usual morning exercise. Her heat had prevented her from doing so for a while, so she had to build up what muscle she had lost from the time spent not feeling like running.

But as she was going, a familiar scent stung her nose. The scent of blood. Kicking her mind into action, Regent’s eyes flitted around her surroundings, trying to determine all the possible sources. A fight, a hunt, a kill.

Or, as the answer actually was, a wolf. Regent picked up her run as her eyes faded down to the wolf lying at the edge of the tide. As she neared, the scent got stronger, confirming that it was in fact and injury. “Excuse me!” she called, but there was no response.

By the time Regent was by the male wolf’s side, she already had her suspicions. He wasn’t moving, and she leaned down to listen to any breathing.

None. He was dead.

It wasn’t anything new. Regent had seen death before. It was more that, presumably with the fresh blood, this was her responsibility this time. There must be some wolves that he knew.

After a short sigh, Regent sat next to the body, and lifted her head up, howling straightforwardly for anyone to find her, and subsequently, this tragic death.

At the sound of an unknown howl, Vincent started loping down the beach. It didn’t sound panicked or anything, at least, so hopefully it wasn’t trouble, but you never knew. He hoped it was a non-trouble kind of howl though, he much preferred the getting to know you kind of howl, you know? Just, hey, let’s hang out.

There didn’t feel quite right for it, but… again, you never knew, right?

All he saw at first was a wolf standing on the beach near the waves. He slowed his pace so he could throw out a quick “Hey!” in advance as he neared. They must be the one who howled, right? He hadn’t passed by anyone else yet and surely howls only reached so far.

As proper and regimented as always, Regent cut her howl off before it trailed. Most people thought she did this because she was so strict about everything, even her siblings. If only they knew the real reason.

Her howl was quickly picked up though, as a rather informal call for greeting was issued by a forthcoming wolf. Regent turned to see the male, who was rather large in stature, practically dwarfing Regent. If only Marchioness was here to make her seem bigger. Not that she really needed it.

With a reserved tone, and face as stone and professional as ever, Regent slowly stepped away from the body. “Yes, hello there. Do you by any chance know of this male?”

Regent kept her eyes firmly on this male. You could never predict how people reacted to death. Regent had been on the latter end of that stick multiple times.

Jonsi had heard the howl.  It had a very…Adunati feel to it, clipped and orderly, and he had a momentary pang of worry that he was trespassing again.  His tail cricking, he glanced around to confirm that he was far north of their marks.

Given that he was doing nothing else with his day, the rangy wolf began to lope toward the beach, head and tail held low.

Know this male? Vincent looked around her, then down where she’d been standing as she stepped away, and although it took a split second of nothing seeming familiar, after that split second he jolted with recognition of the face and bolted forward.

“Tidus!” he gasped, rushing to the body in order to put his head down to hear if he was breathing, not thinking for a second about the possibility she could try to get back in between him again. He didn’t… like Tidus, particularly, but he knew Yuna was enamored with him, and he’d hate something to have hurt someone important to her.

So it seemed the right person responded at least. The male shouted a name that she assumed was the one of the deceased. Tidus. Not one she recognised by proxy.

Another reason he was the right person is that he didn’t try and accuse her of anything. Not yet anyway. Regent would be able to put up some kind of a fight, but size was always a factor. She was a decent distance away from the Gorge too, so it would take some critical moments. She would have to rely on verbal diffusion of a situation.

“Is he family of yours? Packmate? Is there anyone we need to inform?” she asked, keeping her face and voice straight. She wasn’t the one to have emotions here.

Another scent permeated her senses, but she kept her focus on this male. There was no telling what he’d do.

Jonsi approached, taking note of the spread.  A little red female was standing rigidly up the beach from…was that Vince?  And a big fallen wolf.  He picked up his pace, woofing softly to alert the others of his presence.  “All right over there?”

Cold bloomed between his ribs and spread throughout the rest of his body.

He was. Tidus. He was dead.

Even thinking the word made a second shiver sweep over him, standing his hair on and he could feel the threat of tears at the suddenness of the situation, despite never being close to him.

He didn’t answer Jonsi, or the gal who had been calling for help, eyes flicking around and then fixing on Tidus repeatedly.

“Wh- how,” he asked the body quietly. There wasn’t. They had no enemies. The tribe had no enemies. For could kill a wolf. Besides another wolf. He hadn’t drowned, surely, that would be stupid, he was a coast wolf, he knew how to swim. He hadn’t been attacked by anyone. He didn’t. He wasn’t starving. He’d survived the cyclone.

Vincent tried to swallow down his confusion.

“Yuna,” he finally said louder.

The single name sparked his memory. Were they going to try have kids, to play with Carl and Shark? Had he just teased her about that, or had they had a serious plan? Shit, he couldn’t remember, had they actually tried to have kids or not this winter. Shit shit shit.

“He’s Yuna’s mate.”

His throat felt dry.

Why was he finding Tidus he didn’t even like Tidus why was Tidus dead what the hap was fuckening.

Sorry for the long wait while I’ve been dealing with my absence stuff, and thank you for your patience for me to get back here!

Regent’s eyes did flicker over to the guy approaching. She took a step back to ensure her distance from the male in case he tried anything. The first male didn’t seem to respond to the second, so Regent took it upon herself. “This male has been found dead. His name is Tidus, if you know him, my condolences.”

Yuna was a name Regent did not recognise. Although sadly, it seemed that the death was more tragic than that. He was Yuna’s mate, which meant that somebody had to tell her.

Regent wasn’t one to perform such tasks, but she knew that emotions struck some people hard. Even her, although her situation was more… complex.

Still, she had to offer. “If you feel unable to tell this tragedy to Yuna, I can offer myself to break the news.”

((<3 no worries CZ!))

A dead wolf, alone in the surf.  Strange.

And Vince clearly knew this wolf.  It was hitting him hard; Jonsi watched with a mixture of sympathy and fascination.  His green eyes flicked from corpse to wolf, reading the situation.

The red wolf was engaged with the business of dealing with Vince.  Jonsi edged closer, tilting his head to see…just why this wolf was dead.  Blood was leaching into the damp sand, but the dead wolf’s heavy coat was obscuring the wounds.  He would have to get quite close to pick up the scent of what did this, and he was wary of appearing rude.

Giving up on this line for the moment, he straightened and gently angled his head toward Vince.  Soft voice.  Soft gaze.  “Was he in the tribe, Vince?”

Yeah, someone should tell Yuna. He wanted to tell her himself, they were tribe meets, they were friends, right? The fact it was a question was why he also didn’t want to. Yuna had been… Weird around him. He didn’t feel like dropping the news hey, your boyfriend is dead, would improve that. It seemed wrong to shun telling someone hard news, but…

“Yeah. If you could,” he accepted Regent’s offer. She was offering, she probably knew Yuna better than he did. Gal seemed to make a lot of friends.

Swallowing down a strange sense of guilt, he waved his head up and down in a faint nod to Jonsi. “Yeah,” he breathed out again. “Yuna, she’s one of our healers. She.” His throat tightened up as he tried to explain. “I think they were going to have puppies.” Don’t cry Vince you’re a tough guy don’t cry. Maybe they hadn’t this year after all, maybe they’d waited, maybe they hadn’t conceived…

He wasn’t sure if it would be better or worse for Yuna, emotionally, to have Tidus’ puppies to remember him by but without him there.

The male wished for Regent to tell Yuna, although it seemed like she was going to have to find said female on her own. Not too difficult if her mate was near here, she was likely to be around too.

Before she set off, the male, now known as Vince, provided some more vital information thanks to the other male approaching, therefore she didn’t need to ask herself.

So she was part of the Silu Tribe, as was this male. Regent figured that’s what happened to a pack that was so loose as they were, but now was not the time to state those opinions. Or ever, she’d rather not make enemies.

Yuna was a healer and… of course. She was going to have puppies. It wasn’t something that affected Regent, but it did make the tragedy all the more intense. This was going to be difficult for Yuna, and Regent would perhaps have to be a little more sympathetic than telling her and leaving.

Best be getting to it. Regent nodded to the two males. “Understood. Drag the body out of the water.” And with that, she was sprinting off towards the Cove.

Exit

Jonsi took in a breath and held it, watching Vince try not to cry.  He felt a great deal of second-hand embarrassment, which was not helped when the female snapped out an order and jetted off without so much as an And Who Are You.  His head whipped around to watch her go.

Drag the body.  No, thank you.  Was burying a wolf in sand easier, because it took no time at all, or harder, because things came and dug it up again?  He both did and did not want to know the answer.  He let out his breath in a disapproving, sputtering huff and turned back to Vince, his eyes softening.  “I’m sorry, friend.  It’s always hard.”

After a supportive moment, his eyes were drawn back to the body.  There was no way he was capable of dragging it up the beach on his own, and the idea of attempting it rankled him.  What to do.  He quite liked the idea of letting the sea take him, but.  He supposed there was no guarantee that Tidus would not come back with the tide-us.  Grizzly stuff.

At last, lifting a paw, he blinked back at Vincent.  “If you grab around his tail, I can take his scruff and we can get him out of the water.  We’ll figure out what to do from there.”  Jonsi’s voice was as cool and gentle as a mortician’s.  What a day.

((We can wrap it here or keep going, no preference from me))

Vincent was simply looking sadly at the body. It wasn’t even so much Titus is everything he represented…

A squawking cough burst out of his mouth at the unexpected command to drag the body out. He stared dumbly after the little female, then slowly drew his head around to look at Jonsi as his friend provided comfort. He blinked. Jonsi blinked. He blinked again.

“I. Uh.” Eyes watering with a mixture of sorrow and disgusted alarm looked at Tidus. “I.” That’s a dead body. Why does everyone want to touch a dead body. “Why are we touching the body.” Like yeah, he touched dead fish and stuff, but those weren’t like.

Wolves.

Jonsi’s paw lowered, patiently.  Poor Vince.  “If the sea drags him out and away, he will not have a grave.  If it doesn’t, animals will come to scavenge him, and no one needs to see a wolf that way.  We’ll need to bring the body up past the tide line, and dig a hole for him.”

We.  Jonsi did not want to be that we.  But the Tribe had let him winter with them and given him no trouble, and this day on the beach was his payment for it.  He watched Vincent through a neutral expression.  “If you can’t, Vince, perhaps you can run north and find some help.  Tidus was too big for me to bring him up on my own.”
