Approaching the edge of the hollow, Sunfall let out a few barks to announce their presence. Hopefully Nanook was around, but this conversation didn’t really require him specifically, though he did want to introduce Saski to him. Maybe show off his mate a little bit to an old friend. But there was Nanook’s kid, and his older pal, then shy-boy Dalus and maybe one more yearling around here? Any of them would probably do. He turned to beam at Saski, as laid-back as ever.

“You know I’m proud of you Beautiful.” He murmured, with a smile at Saski. Yeah, she definitely looked a little rounder around the middle, but in a totally cute way - probably not enough for anybody who didn’t know her to pick up on. God, nobody better ask her if she was chubby. He was pretty sure Saski would never forgive them for that.

“I know the Union didn’t turn out well. But before things went to shit we had some good times.” Sunfall sighed a bit wistfully. “Now, you mind me mentioning the fact we might be having kids? I don’t want to use them as an excuse or anything, but yeah, like I said I don’t wanna give anyone the wrong impression like we’re sticking around for good when we’re not planning to do that.” Sunfall rarely came up with anything resembling a scheme or even a plan. Pups needed safety and there was danger in the hills - they couldn’t just camp out somewhere in the open.

He reached out to nuzzle Saski. “And no rushing into any joining decisions, today, we just sound stuff out. After this we’ll hang, meet some more of the locals, see how we go.” He didn’t want there to be any pressure on her.

Adonai’s ears perked up at the sound of a call.

He had been—where else—lazing, draped over the roof of the hollow and trying to soak up a bit of rare winter sun. It wasn’t working great, but it was better than nothing.

He waited a moment, listening for the sounds of a reply on that initial call, but when he didn’t hear one, he gave a quiet little groan and rolled over to his paws. He let out a woof of his own in reply, shaking snow from his thick pelt and stretching, every joint creaking and popping with the stiffness of sleeping out in the cold and the open.

He didn’t recognize the voice, but it sounded masculine. Kaete’s friend, maybe? Or that Sunfall fellow Nanook had told him about?

Only one way to find out.

((be there next round))

After the recent encounter with Mr. Asshole, she began to mark the territory. The scents were a few days old, but not as bad as what the dude claimed to be his. So she redid them, going over each spot and then to the next. Starting in the morning, she actually was almost halfway done when a howl came from in front of her, and to the left. Pausing, she mewled over her decisions.

Oh, a reply. She stopped, and nodded at the recognition. Wow, Adonai doing business? She almost gave a short laugh. The promotion must have given him an ego. Well, she better go with him if it happened to be, in her worst nightmare, the Kingdom wolves looking to take over their land.

But it wasn’t. After traveling a short distance, since the call was not that far at all, she broke through the trees. She gave a small tail wag in relief and greeting.

There were two wolves, one smaller than the other. The smaller one looked like the average, basic timber wolf and the other one was in almost golden complexion. What caught her off guard though, was the roundedness of the female. She had never saw a pregnant female before, but she assumed that’s what was going on here since they were so affectionate to each other.

“Hello,” She called out eventually, trotting towards them and eventually stopping a few feet in front of them. “Welcome to the Sanctuary, I’m Sienna.” She looked at both of them individually before settling onto a comfortable expression.

She felt swollen and though she probably wasn’t showing that much, her mind was already telling her that she was fat. A fat mess. A blob through the white. Her nausea came and went and though she had to stop once or twice because of how bad her head felt from the spinning feeling, Saski felt pretty well on this day. It wasn’t like the times before at least, and that had to be a good thing right?

Though even despite this, Saski walked slow; at a leisurely pace for the most of their journey to the Hollow. She didn’t want to go fast. One being the reason that each time she moved she felt like her body waddled and that made her sad. Depressed even. Because not ever had Saski been fat, but here she was dealing with those insecure girlish feelings. And two, she now felt tired like ALL the time. She just wanted to sleep, eat, and sleep some more. Was that even normal?

She didn’t know.

When they had reached the Hollow of where this presumed Sanctuary was, Saski breathed a fresh sigh of relief as she turned to look at her mate. Who was going to show up to this thing? What if they didn’t want them “hanging” around for a few months… A part of her worried but another part of her just wanted to sleep. Again. And that part took up the majority of her mind space.

Sleep. Food. Sleep.

Wow, she was hungry.

Proud of me? Her eyes squinted for a moment, narrowing at his words. What was he proud of? Had she done something good? Or bad…? What did she do? And yet, even though she wanted to ask, Saski merely smiled in return.

Saski nodded once more, hey, they were having kids maybe it could be a bargaining chip, who knows. Was that a bad motherly thing to say? Yikes. Maybe she would be a bad mother…Oh god…

Perhaps it was her hormones, or maybe it was something else, but Sunfall’s last words did make her a tad bit moody. No rushing into any joining decisions? Like she would be the first to do that. Ha. If anything, she’d be the last. Packs were never her thing and she doubted the Sanctuary would be in any sort of way better than the Union. They had failed once already, didn’t they? But once again, she kept those thoughts to herself. No need to cause a scene right when they come in, right?

Just when her jaws were about to part for a wide yawn, Saski’s green stare immediately caught the figure of an approaching wolf. Her eyes narrowed and her ears fell back against her head as she stood a few paces behind Sunfall. She doubted they were trouble or dangerous, but hey, she was with pups now, gotta be extra careful, right?

Nanook had been up for some time now, starting his day off like he normally had, marking and hunting along the way. On this day he had decided to hunt first and then begin his trot along the territory lines.

At a certain point, he noticed another scent, Sienna’s. “We must start at opposite ends.” He murmured, letting a little smirk appear, happy to know that she was being active within the pack. The pale wolf thought it to be a good sign, even though he felt things were a bit rocky right now. Maybe he should call them all together again? At least talk to Sienna, see if she was ok. Maybe that would be best at first. He had spoke to Senna after the meeting, but he still felt the need to stay close. He still felt like she did not quite feel at home yet. He should spend more time with her as well.

A string of barks broke through his thinking and soon his tail was wagging, worries put aside. It was Sunfall! He had returned! Again!

All at once his body was turning and his feet moving. His friend was not far and it sounded like Adonai had already answered his call. He wondered briefly if Sunfall’s mate was with him or his sister. Nanook was excited to meet the both of them and for Senna to meet them as well.

Figures began to form in the distant and the older male gave a series of quick barks to announce his arrival. They had not been far from him and soon he slowed his pace, beginning to walk when he was only a few feet away. His gaze had been fixed on the golden male first, more then excited to see his old friend once more. “Ah! Sunfall! Good to see that you’ve found your way to The Sanctuary once again!” Then there was another, standing behind Sunfall, one of rounder proportions, even though slight. Was this Saski? His mate? Nanook assumed so, given that their scents were so intermingled. A sure sign of intimacy of some kind. “You must be Saski? It is a pleasure to meet you.” He bowed his head in greeting, hoping to make a good impression.

His gaze went from the pair to Sienna, nodding at the youngling in greeting and a few wags of his tail as he approached her. Ultimately stopping and standing by her to face their guests, happy to see that she had stuck around. After the meeting, Nanook was not feeling so confident. “Sienna, it is good to see you as well! Later on, if you’d like, we could catch up?” He remembered that she was interested in learning to become a healer and thought it to be a good subject to talk about after having such a sour meeting. Wolves liked to talk about their dreams, right? Maybe he could assist in her learning of the basics? He had learned a few things from an alpha pair he once knew, long ago. Maybe she would find it interesting and helpful?

Sunfall felt Saski slip into her usual place behind him, using him as her personal shield as a good-looking chocolate yearling approached them, extending a welcome to the sanctuary. He didn’t mind his mate using him for protection and comfort, just wagged his tail to brush against her forelegs. It made him feel all tough and manly, having somebody to look after.

He focused a friendly grin on the girl. Though she was confident and bright, not at all like shy Laura, her youth alone reminded him of the younger wolf. Maybe she would yet turn up. Sunfall always hoped…

“Nice to meet you Sienna, I’m a friend of-” He broke off and sniffed the air as Nanook soon responded to his earlier call. “Aha, this guy!” He laughed, tail wagging some more, and he called a greeting to the older male in a gleeful bark.

“Nanook, hey!” The other male guessed Saski was herself and bowed his head to her; Sunfall figured he’d never have manners that good! “This is her all right. Saski this is my old pal Nanook.” After the welcoming way he’d received Sunfall after first arriving here, Nanook was firmly in the friendship books.

Adonai sauntered his way into view, his ambling gait serving pretty well to hide the limp caused by his now perpetually aching hip. He was a bit dismayed to see that both Nanook and Sienna had beaten him here. Was he pretty much doomed to be the last person on the scene of any get-together?

“Not late to the party, am I?” He asked, coming up alongside Sienna and giving her a little nudge, more out of reflex and habit than anything.

His gaze traveled between the two strangers—a female, clearly pregnant, and a male, brilliantly colored. “You must be Sunfall. Nanook told me all about you. He didn’t mention how pretty your girl was, though.”

A disarming grin in the other male’s direction.

“I’m Adonai.”

Sienna smiled as Sunfall introduced himself. Friends with…? She furrowed her eyebrows and before she could look behind her, a bulking white mass stood next to her. So Sunfall was the sun- colored one. The name spoke for itself. And… Saski was the lady friend. Sienna offered her a small smile, a comforting one. Funnily enough, Saski reminded her of her own mom, being that she had been sweet and reserved.

If there was one wolf she had to miss, it would have been her mother.

She was pulled out of her thoughts as Nanook asked her to speak with him after this, so she gave a confused look and then nodded anyway. Alpha’s orders, she humorously mused to herself. This time she was expecting Adonai’s appearance, and between two white dudes, she probably stood out like a sore thumb.

She almost choked on her saliva at his comment. It caused her to feel nostalgic at the time he flirted with her when they first met. She shot him a glance. “Don’t say that,” She whisper-hissed at him. The pregnant lady already seemed uncomfortable.

She nudged him back.

Saski stayed behind Sunfall, using him as a barrier between her and the strangers for a few moments. And though she wasn’t necessarily fearful of the bunch, her apprehension resided. Her ears continued to lie flat against her skull and her tail limp between her legs, ready to tuck in at any moment. She could feel the remnants of her fear pulse throughout her body, but she did her best to keep a confidence face. They were, after all, Sunfall’s friends. What harm could they cause?

It didn’t take long for another to arrive, this one also white in color but definitely older than the both of them. Was this the Nanook that Sunfall had spoken about? Her green eyes turned to meet his own, watching him with a careful precision as she tried to get some read off of him. She merely nodded when he spoke towards her, bowing her head slightly at her own form of greeting. No matter how hard she tried nor how much she wanted to speak, her lips were sealed shut and her voice practically nonexistent.

When the second wolf showed, his own white fur matching that of the wolf she marked as Nanook, Saski’s eyes drifted towards him. Her stance lowering slightly and her paws finding their way a few steps behind Sunfall as his comment hung in the air.

No words were spoken once again, but the message was clear through her body language.

Adonai.

The name stuck with Saski and she made a quick mental note of it as her attention moved to yet another, Sienna. She seemed nice, and though Saski wasn’t terribly fearful of her specifically, she still stood a good distance away. Sunfall being the only thing between her and the other wolves.

Senna had been mostly sticking to the borderlands in the days following the ill-fated pack meeting, so she was nearby when the call rang out. The sanctuary’s first official border call! Despite being in temporary, self-inflicted exile, Senna felt a spark of excitement for the pack she now called home. Word must be spreading out in the valley that there was a new pack in town!

Senna parked herself some distance away from the throng of wolves that was gathering.  Nanook, Adonai, and Sienna were greeting the newcomers, from the looks of things. If it had only been Nanook, Senna might have trotted on up and introduced herself, but with the other two present… well, after what happened the last time all four of them had been together, joining the group would been extremely awkward for Senna. Not to mention, one of the newcomers was shrinking a little bit; like maybe she didn’t really like crowds or whatever.

So Senna would stay waaaay over here, for now. Out of politeness toward the shy wolf, of course.

Nanook was pleased to have the identity of the wolf behind Sunfall confirmed as his mate. He was glad to see the two together and healthy. After reuniting with Sunfall and hearing about his pregnant mate, he had been worrying about them and their safety frequently. It was good to see them in person and know for certain that they were well.

Before he could speak again, Adonai arrived and once again, Nanook’s tail gave a few wags. “Adonai! Never too late, my friend!” The sight of so many that he knew and enjoyed was more than Nanook had experienced before, it was a great feeling and he was enjoying the encounter more so than he thought he would. Was this what pack life truly meant? Moments like this? Surrounded by faces that bring out that warmth in your chest? If so, he sorely wished he had had this when he was younger, if his younger self would even accept such a thing.

The short exchanged between Sienna and Adonai did not go unnoticed by Nanook, being right next to the young female, he heard her scolding well. However, unsure of how to respond, the pale wolf left the comment alone. It was something that seemed to be between them and he was not butting into such a matter.

Saski’s demeanor was off putting, but Nanook brushed the feeling aside. He would regard her the way he did Dalus, carefully. The older female seemed very timid and showed no signs of comfort, but it was understandable, she was pregnant, vulnerable and surrounded by a group of strangers.

“Now that introductions have been made, what has brought you two to our Sanctuary?” There it was again, our, they were together, they were a pack, a family. It was a good feeling to refer to them as one. So much so that as he spoke, Nanook’s tail swayed back and forth a few times in excitement.

Sunfall took a moment to flick his tail comforting against Saski’s forelegs, a little gesture to remind her she wasn’t alone, that she was safe with him and Nanook and his friends.

He’d never seen old Nanook look so overjoyed, and he grinned as readily as ever as he took in his wagging tail and beaming welcome. He also grinned as Sienna told off her adoptive father for trying to be flirty with Saski, even in a harmless sort of way. He knew his mate was tougher than she looked, and she wasn’t likely to have taken offense, it was just she kept a dislike of crowds.

“Well, we wanted to meet everybody of course, maybe not everybody at once!” He chuckled, not minding the crowd as much as Saski did. “Adonai, good to meet ya as well! Actually we wanted to ask if you guy’d mind Saski and I sticking around the Hollow for a bit, given that the kids are on the way? I’m happy to share what food we can get out teeth into. Afraid the pair of us are hopeless roamers so I don’t know if you’d want us as actual pack members when we’ll be on the move again once the kids are big enough, but I can sure as hell pull my weight until then if you’ll have us.”

He craned his neck around to blink carefully at Saski, silently asking if he was doing okay. She hadn’t wanted to join the pack officially (at least not right away) so he hoped he’d managed making their position clear enough.

((No worries Dai mate! We can go ahead and do a loose posting order, 1 per round with Sunfall starting a new round, that way we can keep this one moving :) ))

Well, the girl was shy, he guessed, and Sunfall hadn’t responded really to his compliment.  Oh well. Some folks just needed to loosen up a bit.

“I do hope you decide to stay awhile.  It’s been a long time since I’ve had a crowd of little ones underfoot.” And these would have no reason to hate him. Right away anyway.  That was a relief.

She could feel her body wanting to shake, to tremble at the sight of a million wolves hovering around her. But instead, she was paralyzed. Stuck in her position behind Sunfall. But that was okay, she told herself, he could do the talking. She could just…stand here… and watch…

Saski gave a small nod towards each of the words that were spoken, agreeing with no matter what was said. Whatever Sunfall wanted to do, she’d follow. Staying at the Hollow was probably a good decision. Especially with pups on the way…

Luckily for them, it seemed that no one as of late had any objections. Maybe this pack would be different from the Union, she thought, maybe they were a better family than the first one she had joined.

Nanook was pleased to here that the pair were wanting to stay, even if only for a while. He had been worrying about how they were fairing, out in the wild, during a time that was not so forgiving on the creatures that roamed the earth and especially on pregnant females. He wanted the two to be safe and sound and for their soon to be born pups to be safe as well.

“Sunfall, Saski, you are more than welcome my friends to stay in The Sanctuary for as long or short as you’d like. This place… it is not a traditional pack. It is as it is named, a Sanctuary. You are free to join and leave as you please or join and roam as you please. There is even a title for such wolves, Seekers. They are wandering souls, always apart of The Sanctuary, apart of our family, but free to come and go as they please, helping wolves in need and spreading the word of a place of peace and safety.” As he spoke, pride filled him, he had not been able to speak so much of his new home, to speak of what he thought it was, what it meant to be apart of The Sanctuary, it felt good, it felt right. “We are all equal here and we all help each other, we are a family.” His lips tugged at the sides, smiling wide, a softness in his amber gaze and voice.

((No worries Dai, and let’s just close it up here/with our next posts guys if that’s cool with everybody, since I know Lei doesn’t have much online time these days either and we’re all a bit backdated/moved on now))

Sunfall chuckled at the phrasing. “A whole crowd eh, you might be giving me a bit too much credit in the manliness department.” He joked to Adonai, a bit inappropriately but well-meaning as ever.

“Nanook, we really appreciate that man. And you know, we talked about me helping protect this place before, so if there’s a rank for that I’d probably take that one, but that Seeker rank sounds cool.” He privately wouldn’t want the rank itself because he knew that cowardly little Brotherhood yearling was actually named that. “Long as I’m here, I’ll help defend the sanctuary Nanook, you got my word on that. But we’ll talk about joining and we’ll get back to you soon, okay?”
